Bro. Brown's Message PDF Print E-mail

There was a teenager that did not want to be seen in public with her mother be-cause of the terrible scars on her mother's hands and arms. One day while shop-ping, a store clerk looked horrified when she noticed those horrible scars as the mother reached out her hands and arms to pay for the clothing. The child became so embarrassed, she began to cry and ran to the car. On the way home the teenage daughter, through her tears, told her mother how embarrassed she had been. When she arrived home, she ran to her room and shut the door behind her. Her mother was understandably hurt, and decided to tell her the story behind those hideous scars. "When you were a baby our house caught fire, I came into to your room to get you. When I wrapped you in my arms, I had to go through flames to save you and myself from the flames. As I went through the flames I held you as close to my chest as I could in order to protect you but I could feel the fire on my arms and on my hands. But I was relieved and thankful that even though my arms and hands were damaged that you were unharmed." The young girl now through dif-ferent tears looked at her mother's hands and arms and began to embrace those scars and to kiss those scars.

Many of our sins begin with our eyes. What the eyes gaze upon, our hearts begin to crave. But notice, what we perceive comes from what is already in our hearts. Paul in Philippians tells us how we are to train the perspective of our hearts, Phi-lippians 4: 8 - 9, "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is any-thing praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you." When we train our hearts, we see from the perspective that God wants us to see things through, we see things through His Word and His instructions to us. But we still need to guard what our eyes see, for what we see can change our per-spective. Notice what Matthew 5: 29 says, "If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell." Our eyes when focused on the wrong things can change our hearts and thus change our perspec-tive. May we always look upon the things that will keep our hearts in God's ways and may we keep our hearts tuned into the perspective of God.
