For those who follow college football, you know that, last week, Alabama de-feated LSU to win the national championship. (I know that this is not a favor-ite topic for you UT fans but stick with me for a minute. There is a point.) After the game, a reporter asked Alabama’s coach Nick Saban what he had said to his team to prepare them for the game. His response centered around one word – FINISH. He told his team that they needed to focus on finishing – finishing every play, every drive, every stand. They needed to finish what they had started in the game and in the season. FINISH!
That statement struck a chord with me because, as Christians, there is a great need for us to finish as well. So often we begin the Christian race with vigor, enthusiasm and determination; and yet, somewhere along the way, we lose our drive. Many give up altogether while others simply quit giving any real effort to their Christian growth and service. We become like the seeds planted on the rocky soil, scorched and withered by the heat of temptation, trials or hard-ships; or like the seeds planted in the thorny soil, choked out by the riches and cares of the world. I am reminded of Paul’s words in Galatians 5:7, "You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?"
We need to commit to finish what we started! There are going to be obsta-cles, struggles and temptations along the way, but the only way to receive the prize (heaven) is to finish the race. In the words of Paul, "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it." (1 Cor. 9:24) The race is too important and the prize is too great to quit or give up. We must FINISH!
I Hope You Have A Wonderful Day!
